Two students, EE graduate student Katherine Pratt and undergrad alum Andrew Hill, each received a\u00a0NSF Graduate Research Fellowship. Margaret Thompson, an EE graduate student, received the National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate Fellowship. Her current work with Professor Chizeck in the BioRobotics Lab is designing novel brain-computer interface (BCI) platforms using long-term, fully implanted deep brain stimulation (DBS) electrodes which were originally designed to treat movement disorders such as Parkinson&#8217;s disease and essential tremor. <a title=\"Closed-Loop DBS\" href=\"http:\/\/brl.ee.washington.edu\/?page_id=40\">Read more about her work here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-984\" src=\"https:\/\/ada.ece.uw.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/25\/2014\/05\/kpratt_headshot.png\" alt=\"kpratt_headshot\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wp.ece.uw.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/25\/2014\/05\/kpratt_headshot.png 748w, https:\/\/wp.ece.uw.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/25\/2014\/05\/kpratt_headshot-300x300.png 300w, https:\/\/wp.ece.uw.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/25\/2014\/05\/kpratt_headshot-150x150.png 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/>Katherine Pratt graduated in 2008 from MIT with a degree in aerospace engineering.\u00a0 She worked at Blue Origin in systems engineering prior to entering active duty as an officer in the US Air Force.\u00a0 Most of her service was spent at Edwards AFB as a member of the operational test team for the F-35; she concentrated on pilot systems and cockpit integration.\u00a0 After leaving the military, she worked with Adrian KC Lee at UW (LABS^N), running spatio-temporal behavioral, EEG, and M\/EEG experiments.\u00a0 For the past academic year she has been a participant in the NSF Center for Sensorimotor Neural Engineering&#8217;s program that facilitates veterans returning to academia.\u00a0 Her current work with Professor Chizeck\u00a0 is in the BioRobotics Lab is developing touchscreen control using EMG and other neural signals for individuals without sufficient finger dexterity to operate smart phones, tablets and similar devices.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-976\" src=\"https:\/\/ada.ece.uw.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/25\/2015\/04\/andrew_hill.jpg\" alt=\"andrew_hill\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wp.ece.uw.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/25\/2015\/04\/andrew_hill.jpg 200w, https:\/\/wp.ece.uw.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/25\/2015\/04\/andrew_hill-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/>Andrew Hill is\u00a0a UW Bioengineering undergraduate alumni. He worked in the Biorobotics Lab from 2010\u00a0to 2012, where he did a year long senior capstone design project under the supervision of Professors Chizeck and Hannaford.
